Gambling people can now start a winter betting pool. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s winter forecast for New Mexico predicts warmer-than-average temperatures and below-average precipitation — exactly the opposite of a forecast by the private company Accuweather.com, which last week predicted a wetter and cooler season for the region.
The NOAA modeling is still preliminary, and the agency’s full winter forecast won’t be issued until November due to delays caused by the 16-day government shutdown.
