Things are getting personal in the Santa Fe mayor’s race.

Three days after mayoral candidate Roman “Tiger” Abeyta filed a complaint against union leader Jon Hendry, Hendry said he was returning an award that Abeyta gave him as executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Fe.

You're right, now that you point that out, that's a fair statement in the context of the reporting. But how do we get to "sniveling"? I can't say I have ever seen anyone "snivel".

I don't know Hendry or anything except what was reported here in the New Mexican. I had the impression, though, that there was room that he wasn't really on top of what their consultant was up to pulling all those records. That would make him "responsible" but maybe not technically a liar because maybe he didn't know at the time.

It's not unusual for a campaign to do "Opps Research" on themselves to see what crazy stuff could come up. And City of Santa Fe races have previously raised the issue of Water Bills and County Property Taxes.

I remember come City Council candidate attacked Martin Lujan's candidacy over residency and water bills....remember that? It really hurt his campaign.

Oh my, what outrage! It's almost as if I made up the fact that Hendry lied to the paper last week. But, at any rate, no I don't (and haven't ever) worked for the Boys club. Did you uncover that there was a girl with my same name while doing your "opposition research"? Come on boys. This sure is a lot of energy being paid to a candidate who "can't win".

Lalo, Im not sure the whole 'lying' comment be Jennifer is an accusation. The past several New Mexican articles establish Hendry lied initially about the situation, then lied some more when he got caught. Now it appears he's Mr. Sour Grapes since he's been exposed and axed from Gonzales' campaign and he needs someone to toss mud at.

Lalo a Jennifer Gallegos is listed on the Santa Fe Boys and Girls website as the Abiquiui coordinator, however, she has yet to confirm if she is the one posting this information.

I would be really disappointed if Santa Fe Boys and Girls club staff and Board of Directors are involved in Romans campaign.

Jennifer I'm open to your statement about the Boys and Girls Club director setting a good example for the kids. By any chance, if you area the same Jennifer Gallegos that is the Abiquiu Coordinator for the Boys and Girls Club, can you give some information of the initiatives you and Roman have done at the club?

Wow, Jennifer! I remember you now! You were the lady accusing a mayoral candidate of being "possibly diseased" and you were just concerned for his family, but now you are out and out calling someone a "liar", "petty" and "sniveling". Are you Roman Abeyta's character assassin? Would you please disclose your connection to Roman once and for all?

What happened to keeping the discourse about the issues? As another commenter mentioned this week, people in glass houses (your candidate) shouldn't throw stones.

I'll take the candidate willing to testify under oath about what they did or did not know about the Advantage Asphalt scandal. Boy, I bet that would winnow down the race by at least one man.

Hendry should apologize to the kids for being such a liar. Talk about setting a terrible example. He should actually be grateful that Roman didn't take the award away. Shining Star? Please. Talk about arrogance and dishonesty. But then again, you're only as good as the company you keep. Roman is setting a good example for our kids. He's showing them what civic duty looks like. I'll take the family man who makes his living working with kids over the petty, sniveling wannabe puppet master and his cohorts 100 times out of 100.

That's a spectacular looking trophy there.... Jon Hendry is a true class act giving that trophy back by the way. Maybe the guy on top can be replaced with a hockey guy or something and it can be refurbished.

I could only imagine the dialogue between the two at this point:

Jon Hendry: "How could you do this to me after you gave me such a nice trophy! Im gonna give it back!, Oh and by the way you suck, I don't wanna fight with you, I wanna fight with other stronger people!"

    Roman Abeyta: "Whatevs...liar"
