Patti Bushee and Javier Gonzales traded jabs over each other’s voting records and the influence of outside money in the Santa Fe mayor’s race during a forum Tuesday night.

The two candidates sparred over a water project, a plan to house undocumented immigrants in the county jail, and the involvement of political action committees and other groups in Gonzales’ publicly funded campaign.

"Not a PAC. they are a non-profit who has been involved in politics in santa fe for years and not supporting any particular candidate."

Uh, not exactly an accurate claim. Working America has been around for awhile. But Chelsey Evans, state director of Working America, said in an email that “Our organizers are having face-to-face conversations in neighborhoods throughout the city about why we think Javier Gonzales is the best candidate for working people...” They certainly claim to be supporting a particular candidate.

2 PACs, Sadly, the media jumped the gun on the 3rd. Not a PAC. they are a non-profit who has been involved in politics in santa fe for years and not supporting any particular candidate.

All I can say is that NONE of these candidates are worth a darn.... I would never consider voting for Gonzales...He is just another corrupt politician that the State Democratic machine churned out. A carbon copy of the Bill Richardson and Coss administration tucked neatly in Gerald Peters back pocket...

Then there is Patti...She is a nice lady and means well, but she has been there too darn long and I have serious reservations about her leadership and management abilities...

Dimas on the other hand, is probably the only candidate who actually knows what the duties and function of a mayor are. But he is his own worst enemy. By not attending any of these forums, he has shot himself in the foot. As a result, his message is not getting out, thus taking him out of serious contention.

So we are left with the lesser of two evils....But evil is still evil...., it doesn't matter who wins this election because the citizens of Santa Fe are going to be the losers....Buckle up and hold on tight everyone, it's going to be a long 4 years!

"You would think that if she was all you claim she would already have this election in the bag." And that would make her the "bag lady"? Speaking of which; wasn't she pushing the already unpopular plastic shopping bag ban? Figures. Don't count your checks before they cash though; this mayorathon ain't over til the ballot box is stuffed like a maid in the pantry; down the hatch like a foie gras goose. Not to imply that the goose is cooked, just that it'd better keep its head down til the bag-lady sings for her last supper at the public trough, that's all. No on 9 yo!

Stepping stone? Last I checked Patti wants to go from Councilor to Mayor...And that's not moving on to a bigger office? PLLLEAASSE!!!!

Go sell your mentiras (lies) somewhere else Joseph!

And I've listened to both Patti and Javier. Javier is by FAR the best qualified person for what Santa Fe needs in a Mayor.

Oh no you don't, I'm not part of the "money party, the Javier group !" and I started the "trash talk" right from the beginning and now, as a good American should, you try "trash" talking yourself and fail. Get MAD Joseph Hempfling and USe more UPPER CASE CAP LOCK! or a sappy angry face ...

I dont' know Mr. Hempfling. The losing party you refer to seems to be gaining ground on a candidate that has been in office for 20 years, running for Mayor for over a year and is still polling at less than 30 percent. As for our BEST CHOICE to get the job done how come the Sierra Club, Senator Bingamen, and former City Councilors who have worked with Bushee have endorsed Gonzales??? I still consider myself undecided but leaning towards Gonzales. Im a younger voter and decided early on to follow this election closely and it seems to me like there's something just not right with Bushee. You would think that if she was all you claim she would already have this election in the bag.

Must be getting late in the game as indicated by all the "trash talk" being slung about by the losing party; the money party, the Javier group ! Unaccounted for PAD money at work ! Let's take back our City Different and not put into office more of the same; insiders serving insiders. We need true honest competent Public Servants and representative Civic and Public Service. And Patti despite not being perfect as she readily acknowledges is heads and shoulders our BEST CHOICE to get the job done and move Santa Fe forward. Javier despite his expressed interests is just more of the same and as he stated himself, use the Mayorial Job as a stepping stone to bigger things. We need some with a proven record and who listens, gets things done and is commited to serving ALL the people ! AND has a record of same.

I am talking about political cowardice and Judge Dimas knows that. He a a responsibility beyond what he thinks is Democracy. He owes it to the People and frankly, to himself. He has to trust and believe in, as they they exist right now - the People, Democracy and Himself.

Donado, Bill Dimas was a police officer for many years in this city and a magistrate judge as well. Is that your idea of a coward?

Bill Dimas did not want to get into these kind of forums where you attack each other in front of other people. Not his style. Sure enough, that is what has happened during these forums.

Patti and her people are in a panic. They're freaking because they know they're going to lose. Even her buddy Calvert (the rat) is fleeing the sinking ship. She and the political coward Dimas will be sitting on the Council for two more years, so you chicken suck-up commenting bloggers be careful how you insult them because they will get even with you.

As far as the Charter questions, especially #9, Bushee is going to be 'hoisted on her own petard.' When it comes to the "Strong Mayor" proposal she is now squirming and beginning to do her favorite dance, not Flamenco but the flip-flopping "Twist."
I bet she tells her people to secretly work against #8 (giving the Mayor Javier a vote on all Council issues not just tie votes) and #9 the elevating Mayor Javier to the position of 'Ruler of the Universe.'

A good public servant has a heart for people. Cares for people. Doesn't look down at people and doesn't cuss about them behind their back. Patti is a cold and mean!

I'm happy Patti had a privileged upbringing in New England and that her parents were wealthy to send her to Spain. I am one of many Santa Feans that speak Spanglish. I could fault my parents for not teaching me, but my mom worked 2 jobs, my dad worked 3 jobs. The schools in Santa Fe required that we speak English.

In my opinion Patti is not the best public servant!!

    "other opponent"
Speaking of language, isn't it "opponents"?
As far as Patti is concerned, speaking out both sides of your mouth does not make you bi-lingual.

It is good news that Bushee can speak Spanish, as compared to her other opponent. This may be a plus in her favor! A old saying tells us that a person who can speak two languages is worth the value of two. Translated into Spanish, "El que habla dos idiomas vale por dos (two people.) Our hispano families are losing part of the most important part of their culture by failure to retain and fully learn and speak the Spanish language. This is especially true of some our children who can neither express themselves properly in the English or Spanish language. The influx of immigrants from Mexico and other Latin American may revive the use of the Spanish language in our society among native born latinos in New Mexico and elsewhere!.

Bushee is not a public servant she is an institutional hack, greedy for power and out for herself. Dimas is a coward not even able to face a bunch of old busybody women. Gonzales supports ballot question 9, the tyrant Mayor Charter question. If you want change don't vote for any of the mayoral candidates and vote NO on ALL the charter question and watch what will happen ... real change, that's what will happen.

For the record, 2 corrections for this article:
"two political action committees that support Gonzales" -- there are 3 PACs that support Gonzales that are registered with the City Clerk; Progressive Santa Fe, Santa Fe Working Families, and Working America.
Also, it was the NM Penitentiary on highway 14, not the County jail, that Gonzales was promoting for locking up undocumented immigrants.
