Gov. Susana Martinez’s two recent appointments to the board of regents of Northern New Mexico College haven’t been seated because the state Senate didn’t get a chance to confirm them.

Board Chairman Michael Branch, a prominent commercial real estate broker and former Santa Fe city councilor, said he cannot let the two appointees take their seats because the regents whose terms expired at the end of 2012 are legally entitled to remain on the board until the new appointees are confirmed.

Were the democrats sending a message to the guv? Rio Arriba has been a democratic stronghold since the 1950's. Rio Arriba cannot afford to have republicans in any position.

New Mexico needs a better--read, apolitical--system of getting regents for its universities.
