Three teams of judges donned their white cotton gloves, picked up their loupes and settled into an intense day of evaluating jewelry submitted for judging in three divisions — Traditional Southwest Jewelry, Traditional Precolumbian-Style Jewelry and Contemporary Jewelry — of Indian Market’s Classification I on Thursday.

Fewer pieces may have been entered in the jewelry category this year, said John Torres Nez, chief operating officer of the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts, which produces Santa Fe Indian Market, “but the quality was through the roof.”
