The city’s Ethics and Campaign Review Board on Wednesday fined Santa Fe City Council District 2 candidate Joseph Maestas $1,000 for a violation of the public campaign finance code.

The board found that Maestas, who qualified for public campaign funds, had failed to report all seed money expenditures and exceeded the $1,500 limit on such expenditures. The board imposed a $500 fine for each violation, which Maestas will have to pay out of his own pocket.

Despite new editors, the New Mexican seems to be following its policies to support the machine politicans. Why aren't you giving Jeff Green free publicity by putting his picture there rather than Maestas who was found guility of public financing violations and whose lawyer spent most of his time attacking Green personally rather than focuing on the legal issues--sort of an MO for Karl Sommer?
Is it even believeable that Maestas "forgot" about the sign on his truck or the robocalls he taped? We need someone from Dist 2 who has inegrity and the courage of his/her convictions. Maestas gets a big F in those categories. Thank you, Jeff Green, for having the guts and determination to take on the big boys.
