Clarification appended

The woman, 31, who had served for about two years with the department, said she felt “forced out.” She said many factors contributed to her decision, but foremost is that the man she accused is still employed. The woman repeatedly described the detective as a man she had trusted before the incident, which made his continued employment all the more uncomfortable, she said.

It only seems fair that if this female officer has exhausted her leave but still needs time to deal with this trauma before she returns to work, the City of Santa Fe would be able to waive the rule of no administrative leave or have employees donate leave for her. I'm sure there's a lot more to this story than we'll ever know. The police department is like a brotherhood of sorts. If you're not part of the brotherhood or they believe you're a threat to the brotherhood, you will be thrown to the curb. The DA should know better than to dismiss such a serious allegation based on information the female officer says was never mentioned or used by the DA to base her decision to dismiss. Santa Fe politics at work again... We should be better than this, especially with an allegation this serious. It's ok to investigate someone who has friends who are Bandidos and make his life miserable but no need to pursue a case that involves a rape by a fellow officer.

[angry]This reply is on behalf of women who have been violated by the person she respected and trusted. Some people are not worthy of your trust.

It appears that the female officer was lured and when the co-worker (accused rapist) was rejected, he must have gone bizzerk and forced himself on his victim.

There is much more to this incident than is being made available and folks, it's not pretty. My experience has been that law enforcement will side with the most favored officer and blackball the other, most likely the honest officer and if it is between a female and male officer, most side with the male.

I am hoping that justice will prevail, the guilty face reality and be held accountable. In Santa Fe - that's a tall order.

Spence will side with the majority - even if the majority fails in matters of integrity, honesty and respect.

On behalf of women everywhere, thanks for using your full name. Now we know exactly who to run from. Your ideas about sex in general and particularly about women are truly frightening. Ditto Mark: Get help. Seriously.
