Bread’s beautifully conceived and executed portrait-style beadwork on a hatbox, accompanied by two sepia-tone beaded images on pouches, in the style of historical photographs that would have been placed inside the box for safekeeping, won 2013 Best of Show after five rounds of secret balloting by judges in all classifications. Classification VIII judges noted how perfectly finished the Blackfeet artist’s entry was, inside and out: ‘No raw edges anywhere!’ Luis Sanchez Saturno/The New Mexican
