Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky was killed when an assailant put an ax in his head. But playwright David Ives envisions a different scenario: that Trotsky stayed alive long enough to chat with his assassin, see his death reference in an encyclopedia and ruminate on the meaning of his life.

Capital High School’s theater department will present Ives’ Variations on the Death of Trotsky as one of four comic one-act plays in its upcoming production, All in the Timing, directed by Robert Tode and his wife, Laura-Love Tode.
