The cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service is proceeding with plans to relocate its downtown Santa Fe post office, though when and where it will move remains unclear.

The preferred site is at the Sanbusco Market Center, according to a Postal Service letter to Mayor David Coss.

The city had 20000 sq feet. The PO must have 100000 sq feet.

Hard to believe the GSA couldn't reduce the rent for the Post Office. Does the post office really need 20,000 square feet? They don't even postmark the mail here! I find it hard to believe that retail space at Sanbusco is less than $19.50/sq. ft. Add the cost of the move where are the savings? Can't they consolidate the amount of square footage that they need/use in the federal building? The old Borders site seems to me less than 20,000 sq. ft.
