A Santa Fe man accused of child abuse in an October 2012 incident in which his 2-year-old grandson ate cocaine has been sentenced to a year of probation.
David Wheeler, 43, a van driver for the city’s Senior Services Division, pleaded no contest Monday to a misdemeanor charge of abandonment of a child, part of a plea deal struck with the District Attorney’s Office. Wheeler was originally charged in state District Court with abuse of a child and tampering with evidence. He was not charged with drug possession.
