State police say a 17-year-old Glorieta girl faces a charge of extortion after allegedly trying to blackmail a 43-year-old sexual partner for cash.

The man had met the girl, Selena Velasquez, at a Cinco de Mayo party in Pecos, police said Thursday, and the two had consensual sex. After that encounter, the man claims, the girl threatened to call police to report that he had raped her — unless he paid her $500 every Friday for three weeks.

Please. The man's name was not published because he is INNOCENT. The woman - who is not a "child" - on the other hand, was charged with extortion and threatening. That makes her a criminal in the eyes of the law, and that information is available to the public. As for the man having sex with her, it was a legal, consensual act, with no reason to suspect otherwise.

The man, Whoever he is, AND the young woman/girl, Selena Velasquez are deeply disturbed individuals.
And because of this I am concerned for His daughter and wonder if CYFD should have a look into this guy???

Ruh Roh! Must've thought she was in an "18" age-of-consent state. Doh!

I cant help but wonder if the "friend" in the car was pushing this girl to exort the man. Sex trade is alive in America sad to say and I wonder if he had any part of it. On the other hand- There are too many young girls today getting growing up fast and trying to be adult - dressing, make-up so and sexually acting out- So sad that she pimped herself out like that.... At 17 I knew better, so I am sure she does do... Not to older man..... move on dude leave ths kiddies alone, you have a daughter would you like her to be having sex with a man your age!? Kinda gross dude- really....[sad]

Newsflash. 17 years old is NOT a child. 17 is more adult than child. Old enough to make stupid choices and pay dearly for them. 17 is old enough not to be able to hide behind juvenile laws. Yes, the 43 year old man make a poor choice. A poor choice but not an illegal one. The girl.... and her male accomplice not only made poor choices, they made illegal choices. Choices that are newsworthy in any society and in any paper. Had it happened in NYC i'm quite sure the Times would have covered it.

And I'm quite sure that when these "kids" say it was the first time doing something like this several people will come forward and discount that claim. This young woman needs help. She needs to have consequences for her behavior but she also needs help. Somewhere in her young life she dipped left instead of right, made poor choices that led to more poor choices. She was probably without proper adult supervision and did not have good role models. Or she is just plain bad. Either way I am glad that she is now somewhere where she can be helped or at the very least away from the general public before her behavior escalates. Think Albuquerque and those "kids" who killed a man for his car.

This article sounds like we live in a country where you are guilty until proven innocent.. The journalism here is questionable, to say the least. I get it that Roesler j thinks the little girl is guilty. The story is tells us how she die it, why she did it..I am sure there are many more facts about young Celina we don't know, yet. Our reported neglected to present any facts about the 43 year of adult male, whose name is never given and the underage, teenagers name is mentioned 7 times. What's that about? Where did you go to school? I know journalism is a dying art, but try, try to give us a more balanced piece of reporting. I'll be following this story both on and off the press.

I find it outrageous that the New Mexican has no trouble splashing this 17 year old child's name and picture on the front page yet doesn't say word one about the identity of the man, and I use this term loosely, who had sex with a child. How do we know he didn't rape her, because he said so? Never mind what the 17 year old may or may not have done. What kind of man is having sex, consensual or otherwise, with a teenage girl? He's 43, and that doesn't bother anyone? a Why don't we know his name? The sad reality is too many kids in our community are cast adrift raising themselves. Am I the only one bothered by this? Teenagers do stupid things because they're kids. What is this so called adult man's excuse for his behavior. Should we really be talking the word of someone who clearly has no problem having sex with a kid when he says the sex was consensual? As for the New Mexican, another typical lurid headline that shows a total lack of integrity.

The Police Department did the right thing on this one. The older man made a bad decision getting involved with this girl but she definitely was not taken advantage of. Bet he runs next time any young lady approaches him.
