New health exchange could draw scammers

Aaron Ezekiel, director of Affordable Care Act implementation projects for the state Superintendent of Insurance, said the agency has been working with other officials to identify ways to protect consumers from being taken advantage of by people who may exploit their lack of knowledge about health insurance.

With the New Mexico Health Insurance opening Tuesday, “In general we’re worried about this simply because it’s such a big new program,” Ezekiel said. “That kind of thing always attracts con artists and scammers.”
