State scores ‘F’ on campaign reporting

Here’s another national report card in which New Mexico is right at the bottom: The Institute of Money in State Politics has given the state a grade of “F” for not having laws requiring “independent expenditure” groups to report on who’s paying for their political ads.

“Independent expenditure” groups are those organizations, usually with nondescript, innocuous names, that have risen in recent years to spend millions trying to influence elections.
