State sees fewer infant deaths in 2013

Infant mortality rates in New Mexico dropped by 22 percent in 2013, the state Department of Health announced Tuesday.

In 2013, the state’s rate of infant deaths fell to 5.4 per 1,000 births from 6.9 in 2012. A total of 143 infants died in New Mexico in 2013 compared to 186 in 2012, according to an analysis by the state Vital Records and Health Statistics Bureau.
