Vince Kadlubek, 30, a member of the Meow Wolf artist collective, was born and raised in Santa Fe. Like many young Santa Feans, he initially wanted to get out of the city. He lived in Portland, Ore., for a year or so, and then returned. His reason, he said, was that Portland already had everything it needed, and Santa Fe did not.

Kadlubek said he’s in the minority of young people who return to Santa Fe. “Kids aren’t staying, and new kids aren’t coming,” he said.
