George R.R. Martin's editor hints eighth book 'possible' for saga

Good and bad news for Game of Thrones fans. George R.R. Martin’s editor, Anne Groell, said she expects the sixth book to be out “reasonably soon,” in a question and answer session with the web community, Suvudu Universe.

Groell also said that the original Song of Ice and Fire saga was slated for seven books—one for each of the kingdoms in the world of Westeros—but one web user asked Groell if Martin would be able to contain the tale to just seven tomes.
