The roughly one-year saga of the Santa Fe Community College and former president Ana "Cha" Guzman may finally come to an end as the college agreed to settle her claims for $500,000 on Wednesday after a roughly 12-hour negotiation meeting. Here's a link to my late-night article from Tuesday in The New Mexican:

The community needs to be aware of the unethical behaviors and actions of Andrea Bermudez and Ana "Cha" Guzman. Andrea is the one accountable for the hiring Guzman. We as a community will hold her solely accountable for her unethical actions. For those of you whom do not know Andrea, she is a full-time Florida resident for many years who has a second home in Santa Fe. She pays taxes at the Florida tax rate which is ZERO! Not at the New Mexico tax rate. She will claim (and has) that she is a New Mexico resident. But, we must pull her tax filings (public record of an elected official). If not a full-time resident, then how could she have held and accepted an elected position without committing perjury. This is atrocious and she must be held liable for Guzman’s settlement. She is also a childhood friend of Guzman. If she denies this, then she MUST publicly disclose her tax records. If not, I will ask for a public records release.

I also want to know the residency status of Guzman and her husband Gilberto Ocañas. They still have a house in San Antonio, TX; another state with a ZERO tax rate. I just find these people to be lacking ethics and not worthy of Santa Fe standards. She has walked away from New Mexico (a good thing) but she has robbed New Mexicans!
