International Folk Art Market 2013 | Santa Fe

Over the past 10 years, the International Folk Art Market has brought 650 artists representing 60 countries spread over six continents to Santa Fe for a festive event that annually draws thousands of visitors to the City Different. On the occasion of the market’s 10th anniversary, this edition of the magazine features stories about the major accomplishments — in human and financial terms — of the event’s first decade. Learn how the market started, who guided its early development, and how it evolved and expanded to become the largest international folk art market in the world, recognized for its global service by a number of international organizations. Say goodbye to the departing executive director and meet the new woman filling that important chair. Check out the calendar of scheduled events, entertainment and workshops taking place during market week. New this year: A film offering viewers an in-depth look at the lives of the members of a folk art federation in Madagascar and five short videos featuring artists from different parts of the world and a book celebrating the market artists who have made the first 10 years of the event such a success will both be debuted over market weekend. The International Folk Art Market is all about its artists — and stories about the accomplishments of individual artists and collectives, improving their own lives and the stimulating the economy of their communities through their traditional crafts — dominate the magazine. There also is an artist list, a booth locator and a 14-page section of detailed biographies of the 190 artists participating in this year’s market.
