The city of Santa Fe and the Historic Neighborhood Association expect 30,000 people to stroll along east-side streets during Santa Fe's annual Farolito Walk tonight.

Motor-vehicle traffic will be strictly limited in the area. All shoppers and other nonresident vehicular traffic must exit the Canyon Road area by 5 p.m., after which no vehicles will be allowed to enter the area between East Alameda and Acequia Madre.

City buses will be the only vehicles allowed on Paseo de Peralta from East Alameda to Old Santa Fe Trail.

Avo Thompson, who launches flying farolitos at Acequia Madre Elementary School, said he will be out again this year in the school parking lot, starting at 6 p.m.

Thompson has been launching the paper-bag fliers for more than 12 years, beginning at dark. He will launch about 30 Friday night and plans to continue until 10 p.m.
