Derrick Herrera, a senior at St. Michael’s High School, started playing the bass guitar when he was a sixth-grade student at Santo Niño Regional Catholic School. He taught himself the finer points of playing bass after being inspired by his music teacher. Derrick was for a time known by many for his long, perfect-for-head-banging hair, but then he got it cut. No matter, either way he remains the bassist for the local heavy metal band On Believer.

On Believer started as a solo project by lead singer Gabe Moya, a senior at Santa Fe High School. Two years later, the band has five members. Moya writes a majority of the band’s songs, which are performed live and recorded at his home.
