Born and raised in Santa Fe, mayoral candidate Javier Gonzales, 47, said he is the first one in his family to attend college and obtain a bachelor’s degree — in accounting — from New Mexico State University. He remains enthusiastic and optimistic about Santa Fe’s future.

He said initially he did not imagine running for mayor. “I have always enjoyed public service, but I was not sure what path I wanted to take,” he said. He said he has always wished for a town where “everyone has a place to work, a good job, can buy a home and raise a family — but for many that is not a reality.”
