The first photographs Jim Gautier did for Cornerstones Community Partnerships were in 1988. “It was eight churches in the Las Vegas area,” he recalled. “In one day, an Easter Sunday, I drove 300 miles and photographed those eight churches and I was absolutely in love with the organization.”
For 25 years, Gautier has photographed historic churches and other buildings for Cornerstones, a Santa Fe nonprofit that works with communities to restore their important, aging buildings. Fifteen framed prints from the series are presented in the exhibition Historic Churches of New Mexico, opening Thursday, May 8, at the Los Alamos National Bank branch at 301 Griffin Street.
