Chef program continues

The Santa Fe Farmers Market/Santa Fe Alliance Cook With the Chef program continues at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the market's Railyard location (1607 Paseo de Peralta) with a demonstration by Atrisco Café and Bar (DeVargas Center, 193 Paseo de Peralta, 983-7401) chef/owner George Gundrey. As former executive director of the Santa Fe Farmers Market and a member of one of Santa Fe's most high-profile restaurant families (Tomasita's ring a bell?), Gundrey brings his experience with local growers and dedicated use of regionally harvested products to the table — or rather, to the rapidly growing Farm to Restaurant Project his café proudly participates in (santafealliance.com/farmtorestaurant). The Cook With the Chef program continues every Thursday through Oct. 7 with demonstrations by (in order of appearance): Patrick Gharrity of La Casa Sena; Jennifer Nelson of Annapurna's World Vegetarian Café; Ahmed Obo Jambo Café; and Megan Tucker of Amavi restaurant.

Benefit to help two food orgs

Mark your calendars: On Sept. 15, a handful of local restaurants will participate in a "Dine Out Night" to raise money for Slow Food, an international movement established in 1986 to preserve traditional and regional cuisine and to promote sustainable food production, and Terra Madre, an international network of food producers, cooks, educators and students from 150 countries. A portion of proceeds from food sales at the following restaurants on that Wednesday night will be used to send local farmers to Italy to learn more about sustainable agriculture. Participating restaurants include: two Bumble Bee's Baja Grill locations, 3777 Cerrillos Road, 988-3278, and 301 Jefferson St., 820-2862; Il Piatto Cucina Italia, 95 W. Marcy St., 984-109; Joe's, 2801 Rodeo Road, Suite A5, 471-3800; La Boca, 72 W. Marcy St., 982-3433; two Second Street Brewery locations, 1814 Second St., 982-3030, and 1607 Paseo de Peralta in the Railyard, north side of the farmers market pavilion, 989-3278; and Vinaigrette — A Salad Bistro, 709 Don Cubero Alley, 820-9205. Be sure to tell them you're there in support of Terra Madre and Slow Food.
