Dear Readers,

In October, we released a new version of Santafenewmexican.com. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. But we've also been listening to those messages that tell us there's more we can do to improve the way the site functions.

Today, we're responding to one of the most often asked for upgrades - the commenting system. Users have told us the log-in procedure was confusing, it was unclear whether a posting had been made because one had to refresh the screen to see whether the comment had taken.

We are testing here today (and next week) a commenting system called Disqus, which is very popular among online publishers and bloggers. It is used at such sites as mashable.com and KOB.com

Here are some of the advantages of the system.
  • When you add a link to a Web page, it will appear hotlinked automatically.
  • You can log in using your personal facebook or twitter account.
  • When someone posts a comment to which you'd like to reply directly, the system will indent your reply to signify it as a reply.
  • You can post your comments to twitter or facebook.
  • You need not refresh the page to see whether your comment posted.
  • The Community Ticker, which shows the most recent comments will be in near real-time (We can demonstrate that for you until we make a final implementation.)
  • You can subscribe to new comments by either e-mail or RSS.
If you don't want to sign in using your twitter or facebook account, you will be prompted to start a Disqus account to comment.

Please add your comments below to try out this new feature.

With thanks,
Henry M. Lopez
