Third Place, adults' poetry
12/18/2008 - 12/19/08
The world is upside down,
shaken to its core.
No one can predict
what was predictable before!
Pink slips in hand,
they are filing out the door.
What did they do that does not need
doing anymore?
There is a quiet everywhere.
Too numb to speak, we whisper.
We ask each other how we are,
afraid to hear the answer.
At dusk, the sun slips off the edge,
and darkness falls like thunder.
Is Santa hard at work,
or has the Pole gone under?
This season wears another face,
that sets this year apart.
But, it is possible to share
the solstice promise in our hearts!
