Nothing new from State Radio's new album Let It Go, released at the end of August. The album included the same mix of a of couple great songs and others that leave you hanging.
As a selective State Radio fan for their mix of reggae and rock combined into their own alternative genre, Let it Go left a little to be desired.
"Calling All Crows" championed the album, and with its heavy reggae influence that State Radio is loved for, it makes the album definitely worth buying. Its combination of electric piano, guitar and light drums with tone steady lyrics makes an instantly desirable combination.
"Evolution" plays on these acoustic themes in "Calling All Crows" and provides another hit worth buying. State Radio even throws in a couple bluegrass lines just for fun with "Blood Escaping Man" — which adds some flavor to the album.
However, the album is held down by songs like, "Held Up By the Wires," which has heavy bass that drowns out the lyrics and gives the music a more metal quality that I do not prefer. The album is worth the $10 for those that don't mind a wide range of acoustics imitating metal, rock, reggae and slow pop reminiscent of Postal Service. The album, however, can be better mined for the three or four great songs that make State Radio worth listening to album after album.
