Warrior is the story of two brothers, both semi-professional Ultimate Fighting Championship cage fighters who have taken separate paths in their lives. For different reasons, they both decide to enter the ring again in hopes of winning the new Sparta tournament, which offers $5 million to the man who can beat 16 of the toughest fighters in the world.
The brothers, Brendan (Joel Edgerton) and Tommy (Tom Hardy) seem to counter each other in every way possible. Brendan has a family with three little girls, while Tommy is a military veteran of Afghanistan gone absent without official leave. Although similar plots have been used in many movies, Warrior manages to absorb viewers into the story line. Toward the end of the movie, I was rooting for my favorite cage fighter.
The film also takes a step back and does not paint the fighters as "wild animals," which is another great element. Instead, the film showcases fighters' drive for training and their raw emotion during fight scenes.
Warrior resembles a modern-day Rocky, in which talent, emotion and stunning fight scenes all whirl into one to make it a possible classic.
