Nowadays, it's not unusual for most youth (and adults too) to feel unhappy, annoyed and just like everything sucks. We all need a little positive boost of energy and a tiny light of hope.

One of those lights is Katherine Barton. Kat, 18, is a senior at Santa Fe High School, already knows what life is about and especially how to live it.

"I want to live life being happy. I want to absorb as much of the amazingness that this world has to offer as much as I possibly can," Kat said. "These are my indefinite goals."

Unquestionably, this is the type of person who most people should strive to be like: a good, dedicated, responsible student; a friend who never lets you down, no matter how busy or what time it might be; and a person whose integrity remains intact, no matter how bad things are.

She takes her influence from the everyday things and has a great respect for all of her teachers because of their patience, kindness and determination. In her free time, her favorite thing to do is to draw, but she also loves to read comics (manga), to write and to bake. She is most proud of herself for trying to become a happier person.

"It can take a lot of work," Kat said.

In a word, she would describe herself as "scatterbrained," and when asked what made her unique, she graciously said her thought-process. This optimistic, honest, hardworking, caring, yet modest woman is a good example to follow.
