Heath Concerts is bringing another exciting hip-hop name to Santa Fe. Nappy Roots will perform Sunday at Santa Fe Sol Stage & Grill (formerly Santa Fe Brewing Co.), off N.M. 14, a day before Martin Luther King Jr. Day. For those who many not know, Nappy Roots is an alternative, Southern rap group consisting of Fish Scales, Skinny DeVille, B. Stille, Ron Clutch and Big V. Oakland.

Nappy Roots is known for its old-school, hip-hop music, which is most apparent in "Po' People," a song that urges people to remain happy, even though they might not have everything they want. Many of the band's other songs have similar messages with feel-good beats. The band's native Southern drawls give its style a unique Southern flavor.

Jamie Lenfestey, director for Heath Concerts, had been trying to book Nappy Roots for the hip-hop barbecue event he sponsors each spring, but due to the group's busy schedule, he was unable to secure them for the event last year.

"I checked them out then, and while they are definitely nasty, they are funny and funky with a Southern Kentucky slant," Lenfestey said.

The show will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15. Tickets are available at www.ticketssantafe.org. All ages are permitted. Tickets will be $20 at the door, and $16 in advance. Zoology from Albuquerque also is scheduled to perform.
