In the Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Lucy (Georgie Henley) and Edmund (Skandar Keynes) Pevensie are stuck in England living with their obnoxious cousin, Eustace, and his family.

Susan and Peter (Lucy and Edmund's older siblings) are off having fun without them — Susan is in America with their mother and Peter is at college. While Lucy, Edmund and Eustace are having one of their usual disagreements, one day a nautical portrait hanging on the wall begins to spill water into the room. Soon everything is flooded, and, after some neat special effects, the children end up in the Narnian sea. They are rescued by their old friend King Caspian, who is manning the Dawn Treader. The adventure has begun. Soon the ship and its diverse crew explore dangerous islands in search of swords so they can rescue the seven lost lords. Throughout the movie Lucy and Edmund learn about growing up and Eustace learns to not be a detestable brat.

This third Narnia film was more entertaining than the very disappointing Prince Caspian simply because of improved acting and special effects. Its few comical moments and climactic battle scenes, however, weren't anything to write home about. After this film, my big question is whether movie producers will make the last four books into movies. So far, the films have received mixed reviews and it may not be wise to continue the series. This last film, in fact, ended with a nice conclusion, tying up all the loose ends.

If you read the books and are interested in seeing the movie version or saw the previous films, watching Voyage of the Dawn Treader is a good idea and safe bet. However, I wouldn't bother if you are just curious and don't know much about the series. Either way, I would recommend waiting for it to come out on DVD because it isn't worth a trip to the movie theater.
