Track and field districts This past weekend, AA-AAAA teams from across the state met for their respective district track tournaments. Districts allow the best athletes to qualify for state even if they do not have the necessary qualifying score. Desert Academy won the boys and girls AA meet. Peñasco won the AAA districts for girls, and Mesa Vista won the boys meet. Santa Fe Prep won the AAAA meet for both boys and girls. The state AA track and field championships are this weekend in Albuquerque. Go to www.nmact.org for information on times and location.

NHL hockey playoffs

The National Hockey League has completed its first round of playoffs and is in the process of completing the conference semifinals. In the Eastern Conference, the best-of-seven match-ups are Montreal vs. Philadelphia and the N.Y. Rangers vs. Pittsburgh. In the Western Conference, the match-ups are Detroit vs. Colorado and San Jose vs. Dallas. Further information is at www.NHL.com.

Major League Lacrosse

Lacrosse is said to be the "fastest game on two feet." A mix of hockey, soccer and football makes Lacrosse an exciting sport to watch and follow. The professional lacrosse season has started, and Los Angeles leads the Western Conference with Denver in second. Rochester and Philadelphia are tied for the lead in the Eastern Conference.

Baseball

With basketball season coming to an end, many sports fans turn to baseball for the latest action. In the American League, Boston leads the Eastern Division, Chicago the Central and Los Angeles the West.
