Ryan Wall walked away from The University of New Mexico men's basketball team once before.
On Tuesday night, he did it again.
Two years after he transferred from the Lobos' program to Texas Christian University, Wall nailed a 3-pointer with four seconds left to lift TCU to a come-from-behind 74-72 win in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Mountain West Conference play. They were his only points of the game.
The loss is UNM's second in a row and it stopped a three-game road winning streak. Meanwhile, TCU continued its home dominance with its 10th win in 11 games.
Wall's shot was the last of a 19-for-25 performance by the Horned Frogs (10-6 overall, 2-1 MWC) from the field in the second half that helped them overcome a 48-30 deficit just 2:46 into the second half.
A 26-9 run erased the Lobos' advantage, and was capped by a Jason Ebie 3-pointer at the 5:20 mark to make it 59-59. Even though Chad Toppert responded with consecutive 3s to give the Lobos a 65-59 lead, they struggled with their free-throw shooting down the stretch.
UNM (14-4, 1-2) went 5-for-8 in the final 3:49, including a Dairese Gary miss at :39 and his team leading 71-69. He hit the second of the two-shot opportunity, but the Horned Frogs cut the margin to 72-71 on Brent Hackett's jumper with 18 seconds left. A UNM turnover gave TCU its final opportunity.
New Mexico was the hot-shooting team in the first half as it hit 62.5 percent of its shots (14-for-25) and went 7-for-14 on 3-pointers. Prentice was 5 of 6 from beyond the arc and had 15 points as UNM built a 41-28 lead.
It continued into the early moments of the second half, and the lead reached its zenith on a J.R. Giddens 3 at 17:14.
Prentice finished with 19 points and Giddens had 12. Daniel Faris scored 11 points and Roman Martinez added 10.
Kevin Langford and Henry Salter led the Horned Frogs with 16 points each.
