Santa Fe Waldorf wrapped up the pre-district portion of its schedule Wednesday night with a double-dose of good news.
First, the Wolves (9-6) got an easy 63-33 win over Desert Academy (2-11) at Fort Marcy Complex. Second, they were actually playing a game within city limits.
"Well, we were actually the visiting team even though it was in the place where we're usually at home," said Rob Clifford, Waldorf head coach. "It was good to be back in a familiar place, though."
The Wolves haven't had a home game since early December.
It wasn't until the second quarter that they were able to shake free with an 18-5 run. A 15-point halftime lead became 26 after three quarters when Waldorf outscored Desert Academy 14-3 to start the second half.
Elliot Radsliff had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolves. Daniel McCormick had 14 points, Josh Hagen 11 and Edgar Davila 10 with seven steals.
Jasper Grossman's 10 points and Michael Montoya's eight led the Wildcats.
Davila sparked the second quarter run. He didn't arrive at the gym until the start of the quarter because he spent Wednesday afternoon playing on his select soccer team. When he showed up, the Wolves pulled away.
"He's a real ball hawk, so when he got here it got things going for our defense," Clifford said.

ESPAñOLA VALLEY 52, LOS ALAMOS 35
In Griffith Gymnasium, the visiting Lady Sundevils (18-3, 2-1) got 19 points from Lauren Quintana and 10 from Maria Serna in a District 2AAAA win against the Lady Hilltoppers (10-11, 1-2).
The difference was Española's second-half defense. After a bucket late in the second quarter by Serna gave the Sundevils a 23-20 lead at halftime, Los Alamos managed just three field goals in the entire second half.
"We pressed in the third quarter and did some other things in the fourth," said Ron Drake, Española head coach. "We got the lead up, we played everybody. But, really, this was a big win for us. We did it on the road, and winning on the road is always important in district."
Haley Each and Monika Teeter each had a team-high 10 points for the Lady Hilltoppers. Los Alamos has dropped two straight games in district play and now heads out on the road for its next two games.
Desiree Howie and Ashlynn Trujillo added seven points apiece for the Lady Sundevils.
