Dallas Trahern was close to home, but the Albuquerque Isotopes were still far away from righting their ship.
Trahern, the 22-year-old right-handed starter from Owasso, Okla., had one of his best outings of the season, but it paled against the zeros the Oklahoma RedHawks painted. The duo of Brian Gordon and Paul Kometani combined for a three-hitter in a 4-0 win in front of a crowd of 5,901 in Pacific Coast League baseball at Bricktown Ballpark Tuesday.
The loss is the 10 in the last 11 games for Albuquerque, which is 10 1/2 games behind Oklahoma (51-42) in the American Southern Division.
The blame couldn't be found with Trahern, though. He allowed a sacrifice fly to Ryan Roberts in the first inning and then nothing after that over the next five innings.
He gave up eight hits and walked two batters, but fell to 3-8 overall.
That's because the Isotopes (40-52) could do nothing against Gordon and Kometani. They managed only two singles and a walk in the first six innings against Gordon (1-2) while he registered eight strikeouts.
Kometani went the final three innings to pick up his second save.
When Trahern left, the RedHawks roughed up Ross Wolf for three runs on four hits and a Wolf wild pitch that led to a run.
Jason Wood, Tagg Bozied and Andrew Beattie each had a base hit to lead the Isotopes' paltry attack.
Right-hander Steve Woodard (0-1, 5.20 ERA) takes the mound for Albuquerque against lefty Jason Stanford (0-0, 0.00) in a 10:05 a.m. start.
