McPherson hits three home runs for Albuquerque
5/19/2008 - 5/20/08
ALBUQUERQUE — Welcome back, Gaby. Well done, Dallas. On the same night Gaby Hernandez returned from nearly a month spent on the disabled list, Dallas McPherson homered three times, as Albuquerque defeated Round Rock 12-6 in Pacific Coast League baseball Monday at Isotopes Park.
McPherson hit solo home runs in the second and sixth innings before adding a two-run shot in the seventh. It was the first three-home run game by an Isotope since July 18, 2007, when Brett Carroll cleared the fences in the second, fourth and sixth innings against Omaha.
McPherson has 15 home runs on the season, which leads the PCL.
Hernandez, meanwhile, worked five innings in his first start since April 22, when he went on the DL after straining his left oblique muscle. The right-hander scattered four hits, allowed two earned runs and struck out two. He did not walk a batter.
"A little rust was there," Dean Treanor, Isotopes manager, said. "Two runs over five innings here is good for us, good for him. To stretch it over five innings, I can't tell you how good that was."
Hernandez was on a 75 pitch count. He reached 59, of which 40 were strikes.
"I just felt going back out for the sixth was pushing it," Treanor said.
Besides, Hernandez (2-3) left with a 10-2 advantage. The breakout came in the fourth, with the Isotopes leading 3-0.
Albuquerque parlayed five hits and two walks into six runs. Hernandez contributed a two-run single. The RBIs were his first of the season.
The Isotopes (23-20) finished with 13 hits, including two from John Gall, who extended his home hitting streak to 20 games.
Joshua Miller, who entered the game undefeated, left after 3 1/3 innings. Miller (3-1) surrendered seven hits and eight earned runs.
The loss stopped a five-game win streak by the Express (17-26).
