Storm causes delay, change of location for St. Michael's Invitational

Another storm, another round of setbacks.

The St. Michael’s Invitational baseball tournament saw the championship semifinals postponed because of a snowstorm that hit the area Friday afternoon. Because of the amount of snow deposited on Brother Edward de Reyna Field, the tournament will finish at Rio Rancho Cleveland High School today.

St. Michael’s head coach Taylor Gantt said Cleveland offered to use its two baseball fields to complete the event, and he accepted.

The two semifinal games — Cleveland-Bloomfield and Cobre-St. Michael’s — will be played at 10 a.m. The fifth- and third-place games will commence at 12:30 p.m. and the seventh-place and championship games are scheduled for 3 p.m.

Dominguez picked for Division II All-Star Game

The college résumé of Mike Dominguez is already chock full of accomplishments, but the Mesa State College senior guard keeps adding to it.

Dominguez learned Friday that he was selected to National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II All-Star Game, which will be held on March 26 in Springfield, Mass., as a part of the festivities for the NCAA Division II Championship.

It’s just the latest in a series of honors bestowed upon the 2005 Capital High School graduate. Dominguez was the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year, a first-team all-RMAC selection, plus the West Division player of the year and first-team member.

Dominguez, who averaged 21 points and 4.7 rebounds per game this season, played on college teams (Northeastern Junior College, Florida International and Mesa State) that have gone 100-32 during his career. That is on top of a 53-3 mark when he played at Capital from 2003-05.
