His best shot at a victory could be in the long jump. Hardwick has a season-best 19 feet, 8 3/4 inches. Ross Miller of Clovis Christian has the top jump at 20-2 1/2.

CLASS AA

Mario Armijo, Pecos. Armijo, a junior, won his first state championship in November at the Class A-AA State Cross Country Championships. Armijo is seeded second behind Randy Nez of Navajo Pine in the 3,200. Nez ran it in 10 minutes, 2.11 seconds this season. Armijo stopped the clock at 10:03.28. In the 1,600, Armijo is the fourth seed at 5:06.66. Thomas Martinez of Navajo Pine is the top seed at 4:39.72.

Michael Krell, Santa Fe Preparatory. Krell, a junior, is the latest in a long time of standout hurdlers from Santa Fe Prep. He is seeded third in the 110 high hurdles at 16.57, just off the 16.12 Humberto Burciaga of Texico ran this season. Krell also is seeded 10th in the 300 hurdles. Zach Woolems of Mesa Vista is seeded fourth in the 110, eighth in the 300.

Brandon Gurule, Peñasco.
Gurule, a junior, is the third seed in the discus. His best is 115-10 3/4. But the top two throwers, Taylor and Tyler Koch of Tucumcari, have gone 141-4 and 136-5, respectively.

Jonah Shure, Mesa Vista. Shure, a senior, is among the leaders in the pole vault. He cleared 11-3 this season, good enough for the fourth seed. It is three inches behind third and nine inches off the top vault this season, shared by Garrett Watkins of Estancia and Issac Ramos of Jal.

Jacob Fishbein, Santa Fe Preparatory.
Fishbein, a junior, will be in the running for a victory in the 200. Fishbein comes in as the fourth seed, but less than a second separates the top six sprinters. Cruz, the top seed in the 100, is ranked first at 22.49. Fishbein's best is 23.19. Fishbein also is the seventh seed in the 100.
