Isotopes rally in ninth for win

Not even a discouraging ninth would deter the Albuquerque Isotopes.

Already down 4-3, the Isotopes saw New Orleans score three more insurance runs. But Albuquerque scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth for the 8-7 Pacific Coast League baseball win at Isotopes Park.

Michael Ryan hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer to tie the game at 7, and following a Dallas McPherson double, Robert Andino singled to right field and scored McPherson for the win.

Carlos Martinez (1-1) gave up all three runs in the ninth, but got the win. Eddie Kunz (0-1) gave up all five Isotopes runs and got the loss.

The Isotopes (61-72) conclude the home portion of their schedule with games today and Sunday — both against New Orleans.

Jones moved from federal prison

FORT WORTH, Texas — Former U.S. track star Marion Jones has been moved from a federal prison in Fort Worth and will serve the remainder of her sentence in San Antonio.

The disgraced Olympic star was sentenced to six months in prison in January for lying to federal agents about her use of performance-enhancing drugs and a check-fraud scam.

Jones also was ordered to do 400 hours of community service in each of the two years following her release.

Federal Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman Traci Billingsley says Jones was transferred to a community corrections center in San Antonio on Tuesday.

Wrestlers broke rules previously

LINCOLN, Neb. — Two wrestlers kicked off Nebraska's team after appearing on a pornographic Web site broke NCAA rules twice in five months, athletic director Tom Osborne said Friday.

Osborne, saying he wanted to respond to criticism of the dismissals, made public a March incident in which Paul Donahoe and Kenny Jordan had been ruled ineligible for receiving an extra benefit.

Osborne and other athletic department officials declined to discuss the specifics of the violations that occurred in March.

The school's NCAA compliance staff deemed them to be secondary violations.

The 21-year-old Chakvetadze needed three sets to beat Amelie Mauresmo 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

Fish will face Marin Cilic, who beat Luka Gregorc 6-3, 6-3.

Little League gets swag bags

The circle will be unbroken

Charles MacKay became Santa Fe Opera's third general director on Oct. 1, 2008. Looked at one way, that means he'll have been on the job just 276 days when the 2009 season opens on Friday, July 3. On the other hand, there's an excellent case to be made that MacKay has been preparing for this position, sometimes on the job, for quite a bit longer. Try 40-some years. »Story
