LAS CRUCES — The Las Cruces Vaqueros will play ball next spring.

Owner Andrew Dunn is taking care of the final business details but he and Continental Baseball League president Ron Baron say they're ready to field an independent minor-league squad in Las Cruces.

The Vaqueros will play at 1,233-seat Apodaca Park.

Dunn is a real-estate executive from Beach City, Texas. He says Las Cruces is a "perfect location" for a team, and he picked the New Mexico city over Bartlesville, Okla.

The Vaqueros will play 36 home games next season.

Dunn says his immediate goal is to hire a coach who will also serve as general manager. Negotiations with city officials to lease Apodaca Park also need to be worked out.
