Pojoaque Valley softball team takes opener

The Pojoaque Valley softball team had been waiting out Mother Nature to make its debut.

What a start it was.

Thanks to a 3-for-3 effort from Miquella Lovato and a three-hitter by Mariah Urbina, the Elketttes breezed to an 8-0 season-opening win over Española Valley Tuesday at Española.

Lovato, a senior, did all her damage from the top of the lineup. She had a triple that ignited a three-run third inning, and her sister Amber Lovato capped it with a two-run home run for 4-0. Lovato added a three-run bomb in the sixth for 8-0.

Amber Lovato had three RBIs on three hits, and Brianna Archuleta was 2-for-3 and scored a run.

Urbina was efficient, striking out only five batters but allowing only one walk.

"She had a heck of a game," Pojoaque head coach Ricky DeHerrera said. "She had great control all day."
