Scott Gates went wire-to-wire and won the 54-hole Sun Country PGA Professional Championship at Sandia Golf Club held Monday and Tuesday.
Gates shot a final-round 72 on Tuesday to go with a 66 and 71 for a final 7-under 209. That was two shots better than Mike Putnam.
The top three finishers also received a berth into the PGA Professional National Championship next year.
While Putnam finished at 5-under, he was listed as "unable to qualify," so Bill Harvey (-3) and Las Cruces' Daniel Koesters (E), who finished in third and fourth place respectively, qualified.
Santa Fe Country Club pro David Nowell shot a final-round 72 to finish at 5-over, tied for eighth place. Las Campanas Pro Bob May, who qualified for this year's PGA Professional National Championship, finished tied for 13th at +8.
