The Peñasco girls basketball team has found a recipe for success.

It's feeding the ball to Marcella Sanchez and Abigail Soto.

The pair combined for 39 points as the District 2AA-leading Lady Panthers roared to a 50-25 win over Santa Fe Prep at Peñasco on Monday.

Prep tried to harass the two in the first half, and it was successful enough to keep the Blue Griffins down by only 17-13 at the half. The tables were turned in the second half, as Peñasco (14-8 overall, 5-0 2AA) outscored them 33-12 the rest of the way.

"Then we stopped [being aggressive] and they got going," said Anika Amon, Prep head coach. "It's that confidence thing that we are struggling with."

Soto, the 6-foot senior post, had a game-high 21 points, while Sanchez added 18. Santana Bartholomew and Olivia Cicci each had six to lead the Blue Griffins (6-15,1-4).
