TRACK AND FIELD: CLASS A-AA STATE MEET

Saturday, 9 a.m.

The Monte del Sol girls track and field team almost wasn't, then it was, and now it's the best the school has ever had.

Monte del Sol athletic director Frank Lucero didn't budget money for the 2007-08 season because he didn't think there would be enough interest to field a team. The numbers showed up on the track, so he and head coach Nicolas Trouvat made the financial numbers work, too.

Now as the premier meet in the state approaches, the Lady Dragons have already set school records (the school was chartered in 2000) en route to making their appearance at state.

The Lady Dragons are the top seed in the 400- and 800-meter relays and junior Sarah Meade is hunting for golds in the 100 and 200 dashes individually. Kiara Glover is the top seed in the 400 meters.

It could be a monumental day to end a monumental season.
