The Santa Fe National Forest has released a proposal for a designated system of roads and trails open to motorized vehicles. Everyone who uses roads and trails in the forest are encouraged to review and comment on the plan — hunters, ranchers, campers, wood cutters and off-road enthusiasts.

The public has 45 days to comment and will have more opportunities to comment on future versions of the plan. Comments are best made in writing by e-mail, regular mail or at information meetings.

A copy of the proposal and maps are available at www.fs.fed.us/r3/sfe/travelmgt/index.html.

Hard copies are available at the Santa Fe's main and south-side libraries, the Carnegie Public Library in Las Vegas, N.M., all district ranger offices and the main Santa Fe National Forest office on Rodeo Road.

Santa Fe National Forest will provide more information about the proposed action at a series of 13 meetings around the region. The first meeting is 6-8:30 p.m. July 28 at the CHET Fire Department on N.M. 518 in Cleveland. The meeting in Santa Fe is 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 107 W. Barcelona Road.

Other meetings are planned in Coyote (July 29), Las Vegas (July 30), Jemez (July 31), Rowe-Pecos (Aug. 2), Peña Blanca (Aug. 5), Hondo (Aug. 6), Cuba (Aug. 7), Los Alamos (Aug. 14), Española (Aug. 18), Rio Rancho (Aug. 19) and Albuquerque (Aug. 20).
