Chief Executive Officer: C. Kent Harrington

The privately held company was incorporated in 1997 by Harrington, a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and Texas Christian University. Cathedral Rock is based in Fort Worth, Texas, and owns 10 nursing homes in New Mexico and two in Texas.

In addition to Santa Fe Care Center and Casa Real in Santa Fe, it owns facilities in Bloomfield, Clayton, Española, Gallup, Hobbs, Lordsburg, Raton and Silver City.

The parent company has several subsidiaries that have been named in litigation, including Cathedral Rock Management, Cathedral Rock Payroll Corp., Cathedral Rock Capital and Cathedral Rock Investments.

On Jan. 7, five Cathedral Rock entities in Missouri "pled guilty to felony health-care fraud related to the failure to provide adequate care to the Medicare and Medicaid residents living in those homes," according to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri.

The nursing homes and Harrington agreed to pay $1 million in criminal fines and an additional $628,000 to resolve the civil allegations that it "submitted false and fraudulent claims" to government health-insurance programs, according to the U.S. Attorney.

The homes admitted:
  • That staffing and nursing care was inadequate
  • That wound care was not provided at some homes
  • That patients often did not receive prescribed medication.
  • That medical records were falsified and a "charting party" occurred at one facility to fill in medical records to make it appear that medication had been properly dispensed.
Cathedral Rock also agreed to abide by a Corporate Integrity Agreement with the U.S. Health and Human Services Department regarding all its operations.

The company no longer operates the homes in Missouri.
