When asked about environmental lifestyle choices, gubernatorial candidates Susana Martinez and Diane Denish submitted the following responses:
What kind of vehicle do you drive? Denish: Volvo crossover.
Martinez: 2001 Tahoe
Do you ever use alternative transportation to get to work or run errands? What kind of alternative transportation and how often do you use it? Denish: I try to ride the Rail Runner between Santa Fe and Albuquerque as often as my schedule allows. My family and I bike around our neighborhood for small shopping trips and have weekly bike excursions to a local restaurant.
Martinez: No.
Where do you buy your groceries? Denish: Smith's/Whole Foods are closest to my house.
Martinez: Albertsons, Sam's Club and Wal-Mart.
Do you buy organic food? Denish: I buy organic when convenient and cost-effective.
Martinez: Sometimes, depending on what is available.
What kind of water do you drink? (Bottled, unfiltered tap, filtered tap.) Denish: I generally drink unfiltered tap.
Martinez: All of the above.
Are all the light bulbs in your house energy-efficient ones? Denish: Yes. My husband and I changed out all our bulbs to energy-efficient models several years ago.
Martinez: We use a combination of different types of light bulbs.
How often, and what, do you recycle? Denish: Both at home weekly and in my Santa Fe office. In the office, we recycle paper, plastics, aluminum and even batteries. At home, we use the curbside recycling program and recycle everything we can. Unfortunately, glass is not recyclable so we collect bottles and drop them off at collection points.
Martinez: I recycle cans, plastics, newspaper and all office paper.
If you are a PNM customer, do you participate in the Sky Blue (alternative energy) program? Why or why not? Denish: We are PNM customers. We have taken part in the program, not sure if we still do.
Martinez: Not a PNM customer.
Do you use paper, plastic or cloth bags? Denish: I use cloth.
Martinez: A combination.
Do you grow any of your own food? Denish: No.
Martinez: No.
