1598: Spanish colonial life raises to an art form activities associated with everyday life and religious practice — carving, tinwork and weaving.

1821: Santa Fe Trail opens.

1878: Railroad opens migration from East.

1898: First movie is filmed in New Mexico.

1915:
Taos Society of Artists organizes.

1917: New Mexico builds the Museum of Art.

1921-1926: Los Cinco Pintores, the five painters, are active in Santa Fe.

1922: Indian Market begins.

1926: Spanish Colonial Arts Society forms.

1932:
Studio School opens at Santa Fe Indian School.

1933: New Deal supports artists and writers.

1995: SITE Santa Fe opens to celebrate contemporary art.
