After an arrest for drunken driving:

• Your driver's license will be revoked, unless you successfully appeal within 20 days. This is called an administrative license revocation.

• In order to legally continue driving, you must install an ignition interlock — a breath-analyzing device — and obtain an interlock license.

• If ultimately convicted, your regular license will be revoked and you will be required to install an interlock for a period of time, unless you sign an affidavit saying you no longer are driving. Seven companies in the state install the devices.

• In order to start your car and periodically while you are driving it, you will have to blow into the device. The car will not start or continue running if you blow more than about 0.025. The national standard for impaired driving is 0.08.

• Each month or two, depending on the court order, you will be required to take your car to the installer for servicing of the device. Data on every "blow" is downloaded and reported to court monitors.
