TAOS — New Mexico State Police reported Sunday afternoon that they have arrested a Forth Worth, Texas, woman south of Tres Piedras in connection with the disappearance of her 11-year-old daughter.
In a statement, state police said that officers worked on tips after 11-year-old Jessica Smith was reported missing and located a suspect vehicle 9 miles south of Tres Piedras.
Smith was found in the car near Carson National Forest with her mother, Kimberly Smith, who state police said was "lethargic" and "dehydrated," but that the girl was in "high spirits."
Kimberly Smith has been arrested for aggravated assault and endangering a child and will be extradited back to Texas, Taos Police reported on their Facebook page.
Both state police and Taos Police cited Taos Central Dispatch's organization across several agencies over the 72-hour coordinated effort to find the girl, who was reported missing last week.
Both subjects were taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Taos
